It was five days and four nights
from Jamaica to the Rio, and after
crossing the bar, I knew what I
was looking for. A hot shower,
cold beer and a great hamburger!
I remember when I first came up
the Rio, it was a different world
and I could only imagine what the
rio had been like in the past.
23 years ago, Marios was a
riverside tie up, with few
amenities but lots of camaraderie.
Its obvious the Rio has changed,
and so has Marios, now with 85kw
of backup power, free potable water
and trash service, Marios still
remembers its roots. So stop in and
see what you friends have been
talking about.
World Traveler or
Caribbean Circumnavigator
We are rapidly becoming the must stop
location for those circumnavigating the
Caribbean as well as the globe. And for
good reason, Our guests recognize the
added value in a marina and staff that
pays close attention to their unique travel
plans. We know you want to experience
the sights, sounds and unique aspects of
the culture that make up each
destination. Our mission is to assist you
in accomplishing your goals whether you
are looking to relocate your boat here or
want to explore Central America on your
way to the Panama Canal. We are your
first and best choice!
“I recently left my boat and returned home
to Australia for three months. On my
return in January, 2009 the boat was just
as I left it. Jim Ellis and his crew
maintained ‘Venture’ in a way you as a
proud owner would.”
George Nason | MV Venture | January 2009
We feel we offer you the best value
for your stay. With a complete electrical back
up for the entire facility and all the docks, we
are self sufficient even with a total shore side
utility failure.
Our laundry facility is self or full service.
Why not take the decadent route and just
drop the laundry off in the office. While
you take a dip in the pool.
Daily free scheduled launcha service to
town, international phone and fax service
van service to Guatemala City, Puerto
Barrios and Morales. Mail pickup and drop
off weekly.
Toss in boat maintenance, bright work,
stainless polishing, bottom cleaning, zinc
inspections, and hull polishing with 3M
products, all for extremely reasonable rates.
It
Makes you wonder why I would even
mention the hot water showers cleaned
twice a day, the propane service, storage
lockers, or the BBQ or BBQ Pit.... The real
question is why pay more for less?
We offer Side Ties, Med Moors as well
as a limited number of moorings.
Each berth has access to potable
water, our water is from our own
wells. The water is filtered and UV
treated before being delivered to
your dockside connection. Our
water is intentionally NOT
chlorinated so you do not need to
worry about introducing it to your
boats water maker systems. The
best news about the water... it is free.
All our berths come with metered
electrical power, each box is
equipped with 30A and 50A
connectors. This is backed up by
85kw of diesel generator.
Some people want a shorter walk to
the restaurant, others a little more
solitude. Let us know and we will do
our best to meet your needs.
I highly recommend making
reservations well in advance of your
arrival. During May through
December we are normally full.
Remember that burger I was dreaming
about? It has a name “The Cayuco Club
Burger”! 1/3lb of grilled beef, bacon,
Cheddar cheese, sliced tomato, onion,
and fresh lettuce. Served with fries
and a cold beer! All our food is made
fresh to order and the menu includes
local as well as familiar fare
.
Daily specials are announced on the
morning radio net (Ch-69 @
7:30am).
Weekly events include Swap Meet
Saturday with fresh pizza by the slice,
and Wednesday Night Movies with our
Taco Bar Buffet.
If your ready to get off the boat, join
your friends in the open air club for
dominoes, or browse for a new book.
The Cayuco Club is open Tuesday
through Sunday and the bar has
happy hour daily from 4-6pm.
Monday the kitchen is closed but the
bar is open at 4pm for Happy Hour!
6:30pm on Mondays is the time for
the best meal on the Rio, it is the
cruisers potluck!
So what do you put in a convenience
store? I guess anything that is convenient.
For me that means Fillet Mignon steaks,
smoked pork chops, Wisconsin Cheddar
cheese, imported cheeses and sliced
meets. Whole loaves of bread,
mustards, pasta sauces and olive oil.
I shop the city to bring back all the
things a cruiser might need. Need a
new gas container, a propane tank,
solar lights, or possibly try an ice
cream cone while you are deciding
which type of coffee you would prefer
in the morning. Stop in!
If we don’t have it, place a special
order at the checkout counter and we
will hunt it down for you.
Still on your way here, and want us to
do your shopping for you. Ask for our
provisioning order form, we can obtain custom cut beef, pork and
chicken, case lots of sodas, beer, wine, water or vegetables.
If you feel the need to do the shopping yourself, we make weekly runs
to Puerto Barrios, or I can take you on a shopping trip in the city that
visits Hiper Paiz, (Walmart), Cemaco, (Ace Hardware), Pricesmart
(CostCo) and many others..
